John Major Jenkins on 2012 – December Spore

Evolver Boulder is proud to host John Major Jenkins for a presentation at our December spore event.

John Major Jenkins is an independent researcher who has devoted himself to reconstructing ancient Mayan cosmology and philosophy. Since 1986, John has traveled to Mexico and Central America seven times. In 1990 he helped build a school in San Pedro, near Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. In 1994 he delivered relief supplies to a Quiché Maya community in the Western highlands of Guatemala. Since beginning his odyssey of research and discovery with the Maya, John has authored dozens of articles and many books, including:

  • Journey to the Mayan Underworld (Four Ahau Press, Boulder, CO: 1989)
  • Mirror in the Sky (Four Ahau Press, 1991)
  • Tzolkin: Visionary Perspectives and Calendar Studies (Borderland Sciences Research Foundation, Garberville, CA: 1992/1994)
  • Mayan Sacred Science (Four Ahau Press, Boulder, CO: 1994)
  • Maya Cosmogenesis 2012 (Bear & Company, Santa Fe, NM: 1998)

His 2002 book, Galactic Alignment: The Transformation of Consciousness According to Mayan, Egyptian, and Vedic Traditions was released with Inner Traditions International (Rochester, VT) in August 2002.

His new book, co-authored with Marty Matz, is called Pyramid of Fire and was released in November 2004.

He also facilitated the translation of The Key to the Kalevala by Pekka Ervast, editing and writing the introduction for it. This classic text on Finnish mythology was published with Blue Dolphin Publishers in 1999. In 1995 John was appointed literary executor for Eino Friberg, Finnish-American poet and translator of The Kalevala, the national epic of the Finnish people.

As a visiting scholar, Jenkins has taught classes at The Institute of Maya Studies in Miami, The Maya Calendar Congress in Mexico, The Esalen Institute, Naropa University and many other venues both nationally and abroad. He has been interviewed on numerous radio and television shows, including the Art Bell show, the Laura Lee show, Dr. Patricia Hill’s The Changing Paradigm, and has appeared in documentaries on Native American prophecy and the millennium such as The Fifth Gate (Milton Media, Denmark) and Earth Under Fire (Conscious Wave Video).

In October of 2000, the Discovery Channel featured John’s work on two episodes of the “Places of Mystery” series, which continue to be broadcast regularly on the Travel Channel. John will appear in a documentary on the Maya that will be broadcast on the History Channel in March 2006. John’s careful scholarship and cutting-edge insights into why the Maya chose 2012 to end a great World Age cycle have been endorsed by the most progressive thinkers of our day.

We live in a world that is ever more toxic, threatening even young people with cancers, antibiotic-resistant staph infections, new strains of influenza, and syndromes that are just emerging now. As people discover the problems with Western medicine in treating many mental and physical conditions, this growing awareness is causing an explosion of interest in alternative and holistic therapies. With options ranging from the Alexander technique to acupuncture, Reiki to Rolfing, homeopathy to holotropic breathwork, biofeedback to Bioenergetic therapy, individuals are taking their health into their own hands, and empowering themselves to learn and change. For this month’s theme, our fifty Spore chapters will explore diverse alternative health methods and modalities, as well as how we can work together to implement healing in our own communities, and society at large.

Schedule

Laura Zeigler
Laura’s Aikido practice originally led her to yoga as a way to release muscle tension and deepen the breath. She is a graduate of Naropa University where she studied yoga, meditation, contemplative education and Sanskrit. As a preschool teacher for 11 years she always considered teaching her primary vocation. When her commitment to a regular yoga practice showed her that yoga is a life-changing tool, her desire to help others discover this drove her to turn her teaching skills toward yoga. Laura loves to teach yoga to both adults and children as a way to open up the body, mind and spirit to greater freedom, joy, and peace. She is particularly excited by partner yoga and loves to see what happens when we practice in relationship.

Partner Yoga is a unique way to explore interconnection and relationship. We will practice in community as well as in pairs to explore how we can listen deeply to one another and ourselves. Practicing with another person challenges our ability to remain centered, relax, and enjoy being present in relationship. Prior yoga experience is not required as we will begin with the basics of any Hatha yoga class- strength, flexibility and breath integration- with fun, interactive yoga poses as we begin to flow and warm-up. From here we will challenge fears to discover trust with a few basic lifted poses practiced in a safe and playful way. We will conclude by giving and receiving nurturing touch with Thai massage-inspired techniques and partner relaxation.

Mani Powers
Mani Powers has been a spiritual counselor since 1987. Using many tools including Integrative Breath Work and Shamanic Journey Work she teaches her students how to go to altered states of consciousness at will and transform the energy patterns that keep them stuck in pain and limitation. Her Earth based style of connecting to spirit is rich with truth that awakens in the heart age old knowledge and wisdom.

Verdarluz
Verdarluz began training in 2003 with courses in Zen Shaitsu, Thai massage, Reiki 1 and 2, and Qikung during my pilgrimage through Asia. He began his studies in Astrology shortly after returning, by investigating the Mayan Calendar and working with Mayan elders in Guatemala. His astrological training includes work in the schools of archetypal, Shamanic Astrology, soul-centered Evolutionary Astrology, and Relocation Astrology.

Cassandra Clayton
Cassandra Clayton began her formal spiritual path living in a monastic community on an ashram as a young woman in 1990. There, she was trained as a pujari (temple priest) and began her path as a karma yogi, which is the path of service to humanity. The techniques for spiritual evolution that she shares are a culmination of 24 years of spiritual study, meditation and openness to the truth beyond subjective thought. They are also a result of weeding out teachings that are not useful, calibrate in low consciousness levels or simply are not true. And as such, the teachings are simple, useful in everyday life, and designed to support anyone and everyone in their path to happiness.

“The truth is that we are all in a state of perfection masked only by the constant activity of the mind and its beliefs. There are tools that have been used consistently across religious boundaries to transcend suffering by moving beyond the faulty beliefs of the mind. Dropping into to the heart is at the core of this divine feminine tradition. There is no reason for any suffering of any kind. I wish everyone the greatest love.”

Joe Moore
Joe has been studying and participating in the work of Stan Grof for the past 9 years. He has an undergraduate degree in Philosophy, and a keen interest in esotericism of the east west, as well as a passion for being outdoors. He is currently studying Permaculture and regenerative design at the Denver Permaculture Design Course. Joe has previously worked with Dream Shadow and Boston Holotropic.

Transpersonal Breathwork is a powerful method of using non-ordinary states for self-exploration, personal transformation & healing. It is based on insights from modern consciousness research, depth psychology, Eastern perspectives & various spiritual practices. It combines breathing, evocative music, focused release bodywork, mandala drawing, and group sharing. By activating the unconscious and mobilizing blocked energies, this work gives us access to all levels of human experience and activates the spontaneous healing potential of the psyche. The basic premise is that we all have deeper knowledge/wisdom veiled beneath ordinary conscious awareness. If we can get out of our own way and allow that deeper wisdom to come forth, positive things happen. Just as your body will heal a cut, your psyche also will instinctually guide you towards healing, or growth if you allow it to. This work is of value to those interested in inner exploration, self-discovery and spiritual awareness. It is a powerful adjunct to psychotherapy and other forms of inner work, as well as a useful method of self-care for helping professionals.

Parvandeep
Pavandeep Kaur has been following a yogic path for over 10 years with certifications in Hatha as well as Kundalini Yoga and currently gains knowledge through Practice. She deeply desires connection and enjoys the many benefits of practicing yoga in relationship with others. How do we breathe together, how do we listen to the non verbal conversation as well as the verbal, and how do we find mutual support? Steady in the direction of her heart she continues to grow into the depth of these ancient traditions, evolving into Truth. Loving the many offerings life brings it is the passion of Mother Earth, Bodywork, Dancing, and Yoga she turns to that make her life so rich.

With an interweaving of these practices you can expect to experience a playfulness of the Asana while gaining inner wisdom through meditative states. Supportive of the physical, energetic, and spiritual aspects of Yoga, Pavandeep offers a nurturing space for each student to be their fullest potential. Always grateful to be on this journey of such expansive exploration and to be sharing the experience with all.

The Singularity Archetype is a primordial image of human evolutionary metamorphosis which emerges from the collective unconscious.

How the Archetype Manifests (a Composite Picture) A rupture-of-plane event occurs, usually threatening the survival of the individual and/or species. The event is a shock that disrupts the equilibrium of body/physical world and also individual/collective psyche. It is an ontological shock that will be viewed as the worst thing possible by individual/ collective ego. There is another rupture of plane that may actually be the same rupture as above but seen from a cosmic rather than a personal view. The shock is revealed to be a transcendent evolutionary event. The revelation of the transcendent aspect will often involve spiral motifs and unusual lights. Consciousness and communication metamorphose and with them core aspects—ego, individuality, connection to linear time, corporeality, gender identification, social order, etc.—fundamentally transform. There is a vision or actualization of release from some or all limits of corporeal incarnation and the emergence of “glorified bodies,” which have enhanced powers and various degrees of etherialization.

Evolver Intensives: Galactic Alignments

A new Evolver Intensives series called Galactic Alignments: Charting the Soul’s Journey Through Astrology started on Sunday, September 16, and will continue in five more parts. Here’s the info from Evolver HQ:

Presented by Reality Sandwich and Nightlight Astrology, join Nightlight Astrology founder and RS Contributing Editor/author of “Fishers of Men: The Gospel of an Ayahuasca Vision Quest,” Adam Elenbaas, along with guest astrologers VerDarLuz, Eric Meyers, Erin Sullivan, and Ari Moshe Wolfe. Over the course of six sessions, we will learn to attune our bodies and minds to the heavenly energies of the planets experientially, while simultaneously deepening our understanding of the soul’s destiny through our birth charts.

When we look into the night skies, we can see only empty space, planetary bodies, and distant stars – or we can see patterns of correspondence and meaning that influence our lives and society in profound and subtle ways. Astrology is an ancient practice – both science and art form – for learning about our selves, our society, and the cosmos itself. Astrology has evolved radically in the 21st century. In this course, we will explore new approaches to this ancient discipline. As we gain insight into our lives through studying the stars and planets, we will learn how to access our deepest potential.

Starting this September, join Nightlight Astrology founder and RS Contributing Editor/author of “Fishers of Men: The Gospel of an Ayahuasca Vision Quest,” Adam Elenbaas, along with guest astrologers VerDarLuz, Eric Meyers, Erin Sullivan, and Ari Moshe Wolfe.

Over the course of six sessions, we will learn to attune our bodies and minds to the heavenly energies of the planets experientially, while simultaneously deepening our understanding of the soul’s destiny through our birth charts.

Adam and his guests will explore not only the founding principles of astrology, but will navigate the many variations of astrological theory, allowing you to develop a broad understanding of astrological practice and theory.

The Hanged Man Project

Evolver Boulder recently heard about the Hanged Man Project, and we may help put on a Hanged Man event in Boulder or Denver in the coming months. Below is the vision statement from their website (published under a CC BY-NC license).

The Hanged Man Project is a collaborative and experimental effort between all artists of today in order to illuminate the darkness of our culture by inspiring a closer look. When people are told they must change in order to make the world a better place, it makes an insignificant impact upon the individual. Likewise, when they are told to look within themselves because that is the way we are meant to live, the people instinctively reject that notion until they see the relevance for themselves. Religion, philosophy, and science are all external forces until the individual finds their own artistic way to apply them in day to day life.

The mind is the prime force that blocks growth and change in any individual. Therefore, it is the culturally agreed upon mindset that will determine the obstacles we face as a culture. However, to play devil’s advocate with myself, the mind is also an active force in our creativity. The misuse of our mind is the origin of addiction, because it is the mind that convinces the body that it needs a substance when it clearly doesn’t. These addictions aren’t seen only with substance. We as a culture are addicted to stimuli. Addicted to drama. Addicted to the most amount of output with the least amount of input. Simply put, our individual mind has convinced us that we need to stay the same and not challenge the status quo. Not the government, nor the man, nor any authority is responsible for the feeling of our inescapable lives. So it is our collective mind that paralyzes authentic change.

The movements and causes that the masses attach themselves to (Occupy, anti-war, pro-peace, pro-life, pro-choice, pro-death, etc…) are nothing more than symbols to the collective mind. If the symbol gets big enough then the masses cannot avoid being swept into the question it poses. And there lies the key. These movements and would-be revolutions do one thing better than anything else. They pose a question to society by making a loud statement. The question then becomes, “Where do I ‘fit in’ to this established way of thinking?”

So as a symbol to the coming changes in our economic, political, environmental and personal paradigms, the Hanged Man Project’s objective is to pose the deeper questions through Art. This may be a collective and collaborative project or many individual ones. However the purpose and function of the project is to pose the deeper questions to society through inspirational means rather than that of aggression, fear and ignorance. Art allows for its audience to discover what they relate to by simply observing the art.

All that Art requires from the spectator is an open mind and undivided attention. In that state of mind, the fearful call it hypnotism and psychological manipulation because people have been known to change their whole lives after one honest moment with themselves. A single movie can shatter a life long philosophy. A simple poem can destroy the boundaries of what we thought was possible with a pen and paper. People have gone mad from the reality they see that doesn’t fit their worldview. Art is powerful.

So the Hanged Man says, “Let art be as powerful as it needs. For what? That’s not up to me.”

From theultimatehistorylesson.com:

The Ultimate History Lesson is a 5 hour course, illustrating the cause and effect relationship of how Americans became incoherent, and thus how the American dream has was usurped by an international agenda.

When John Taylor Gatto resigned from his job, he did so on the Op-Ed page of the Wall Street Journal. At the time, he was NYC and New York State School Teacher of the Year.

The Ultimate History Lesson is presented as a five-hour interview session — memorializing Gatto’s research, publications and life experiences — which forms an impeccable resource and reference library of the Underground History of American Education. Each hour focuses on examining the evolution of ideas which manifest today in the phenomenon of ‘public schooling.’ By dissecting the history and presenting you with the references, you’re left at the end of each hour with a copious amount of information from which you can continue your own personal journey of discovery.

Below is a clip from part 5 of the series:
